CFJ is pleased to announce that People’s United Bank will once again serve as Presenting Sponsor of the 20th anniversary of its annual Speaking of Women luncheon, featuring 60 Minutes Correspondent Lara Logan. The luncheon will take place on Sept. 19th at The Waterview in Monroe.
Logan, a survivor of sexual assault and breast cancer, is a riveting and inspiring speaker who will candidly share her harrowing experience of suffering a brutal sexual assault while working in Egypt during the Arab Spring in 2011.
Logan recently told the Toronto Star about her willingness to share her experience, strength and hope with others:
“There are mothers, fathers, men and women, some children, who have said to me, ‘Because you were willing to stand up, without shame, and talk about what happened to you, I was able to tell my mother, or husband or wife, about being raped.’ So the scars are worth it.”
“Having Lara share her poignant and deeply moving experiences, as well as her ongoing journey to recovery, will make for a Speaking of Women experience that should not be missed,” said CFJ’s President & CEO Debra A. Greenwood. “Lara’s story so closely aligns with our mission of serving victims of domestic and sexual violence. It makes her the perfect keynote for this milestone 20th anniversary of Speaking of Women.”
As SOW’s 20th keynote speaker, Logan will join an honor roll of memorable SOW speakers including kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart, Denise Brown (sister of the late Nicole Brown Simpson), journalist Soledad O’Brien and Civil Rights Activist Coretta Scott King.
Please join us for this meaningful anniversary celebration, which is also CFJ’s most important fundraiser of the year.
