The Center for Family Justice is pleased to announce that on May 1 it was chosen as one of two $100,000 grant recipients from Impact Fairfield County, a philanthropic giving circle comprised of women from throughout Fairfield County.
This prestigious and competitive grant was awarded to CFJ for its proposal to launch an innovative program, which will connect clients in desperate need of legal services with an in-house attorney who can help them receive the justice they deserve.
CFJ was chosen as one of two $100,00 grant recipients from a field of more than 35 outstanding Fairfield County nonprofits who applied for consideration.
“We are incredibly humbled, thrilled and honored to be chosen as one of this year’s Impact Fairfield County $100,000 grant recipients,” said Debra A. Greenwood, president & CEO of The Center for Family Justice. “This grant will give us the opportunity to connect some of our deserving clients with the legal representation they desperately need, but cannot afford, as they cope with the impact of domestic and sexual violence.”
A lack of legal representation has been identified as one of the biggest obstacles for for victims of domestic violence seeking justice and protection from their abusers.
As a result of Impact Fairfield County’s generosity, CFJ’s Director of Civil Legal & Court Advocacy Services, Angela Schlingheyde, J.D., will work during the coming months to kick-start a program that will allow the agency to hire a staff attorney to provide legal representation to some of its clients.
