Bridgeport, Ct. -The Center for Family Justice will host Fairfield University’s Dr. Jay Taylor, an Assistant Professor of Social Work, at this year’s Fifth Annual Speaking of Men event at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Trumbull Marriott.

Speaking with Men is organized by CFJ’s White Ribbon Campaign, which seeks to engage men and boys in preventing gender-based violence.

Dr. Taylor’s work focuses on liberating men and boys from outdated ideas of manhood and to inspire men to be leaders in ending violence of all forms. In 2020 Dr. Taylor was honored by CFJ’s White Ribbon Campaign for its “Take a Stand” community leader award for his passion and dedication.

“We are so happy to have Dr. Taylor at our Speaking with Men event. His work to inspire our youth to build healthier relationships is an effective way to reduce the violence that impacts so many,” Debra Greenwood, CFJ’s President/CEO, said.

Dr. Taylor was also recently featured in CFJ’s video about its mentoring program and the important role mentors can have in teaching young men and boys to reverse destructive behaviors.

In the video, Dr. Taylor talks about how mentoring is a great way for young men to learn better ways of relating to others “that don’t always involve dominance and power and control.”

CFJ Board Member Gary MacNamara, who also chairs the White Ribbon Campaign, said the Speaking with Men event is meant to continue these important conversations.

“This event plays an important role in bringing men together to further our goal of preventing violence against women,” MacNamara said.
