Domestic violence victims in need of safe shelter and protection from their abusers, will soon have a new place to go for help and support.
The Center for Family Justice has acquired a 9,000 square foot home to expand safe house services for the more than 3,000 domestic violence victims it serves each year. The new safe house will double the size of CFJ’s existing safe house and provides ample space for staff to meet with clients.
CFJ offers free support services and critical emergency housing to victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and human trafficking. The nonprofit serves Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, and Trumbull residents.
The Empower House safe house is currently undergoing renovation and retrofitting, with plans to open sometime in Fall 2021. Bob’s Discount Furniture has generously committed to provide furnishings for the entire residence.
A $3.5 million fundraising campaign has been launched to fully equip and renovate the safe house. Donors can give at www.EmpowerhouseProject.org.
Empower House needs monetary donations as well as donations of new items including small appliances, laptops, household fixtures, bedding and bath sets, books, art supplies, even paper goods and non-perishable food. Category-specific gifts in bulk can be individually selected on the site. Donors can remain anonymous or choose public recognition.
