Lara Logan, the international journalist who was violently sexually assaulted when covering the Egyptian Revolution for CBS News in 2011, will share her poignant pathway to survivorship at our 20th anniversary Speaking of Women luncheon at The Waterview in Monroe on Tuesday, Sept. 19, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Best known for her work as an Emmy-winning international correspondent for 60 Minutes, what follows are a few things you might not know about Logan:

  • Logan told CBS Evening News anchor and fellow 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley that sharing the story of her assault and its aftermath, while difficult, was important for the hope it could give to others.
  • In 2012, while still recovering from the physical aftermath of the Cairo attack, Logan was diagnosed with breast cancer. After undergoing a lumpectomy and six weeks of radiation, Logan told People magazine she is in remission and refuses to live in fear of a recurrence.
  • Logan’s 60 Minutes interview subjects have included Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf (whom she interviewed after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto); and an interview with Gen. John Abizaid, when he was the Commander of United States Central Command.
  • As a lead foreign affairs correspondent for CBS News, Logan spent five years based in Afghanistan covering the war there.
  • When she’s not reporting on international events and personalities; Logan lives in the rural Texas hometown of her husband, Joseph Burkett, with their children; Joseph and Lola and her stepdaughter, Ashley. Logan has said living a quiet life in Texas has been an important part of recovering from her trauma.
