Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month may be coming to a close,  but work continues

With February coming to an end, Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, the issue of facing young people while they navigate the dating world will continue.

It is worth mentioning that it is important for people to recognize the signs of a relationship that is abusive.

According to LoveIsRespect.org, dating abuse is a pattern of behavior used to control, intimidate, or manipulate. Just remember that ANY abuse, whether over time or just one time, is unacceptable.

Here are the signs to look for:*

  • Checking your phone email or social media without permission.
  • Putting you down frequently, especially in front of others.
  • Isolating you from friends or family (physically, financially, or emotionally).
  • Extreme jealousy or insecurity.
  • Explosive outbursts, temper, or mood swings.
  • Any form of physical harm.
  • Possessiveness or controlling behavior.
  • Pressuring you or forcing you to have sex.

We want you to know that if you, or anyone you know, is experiencing any of these signs, or if you are not sure, please contact The Center of Family Justice at (203) 334-6154.
