Why Child Clinicians Matter: They Save and Change Lives
Mental health treatments help kids recover from trauma and go on to thrive. The National Children’s Alliance (NCA), of which CFJ’s Child Advocacy Center is a member, has concluded evidence-based therapy significantly improves outcomes for children who’ve experienced trauma.
Some of its findings include:
- More than 75 percent of children who come into therapy exhibiting PTSD symptoms were no longer exhibiting those symptoms by their last treatment.
- 100 percent of parents whose children had access to these services reported that they gave their children learned ways to cope with their trauma, making their problems and reactions to them less severe.
- Ninety-nine percent of parents reported they also learned skills for helping their children manage upsetting experiences from these clinicians.
- Parents overwhelmingly reported their children were having fewer nightmares, were focusing better in school, playing more and in general showing fewer signs of distress.
