The owner of the Trumbull boutique Pure Poetry will host a special shopping fundraiser dedicated to supporting children impacted by domestic and sexual violence and the summer camp that offers them hope and healing.
Portia Antonio, owner of the Pure Poetry boutique at 4244 Madison Ave., will hold an in-store shopping event the evening of July 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. n support of client children of the Bridgeport-based The Center for Family Justice ant its Camp Hope-America Connecticut program. Antonio will donate a generous portion of the evening’s proceeds in support of the camperships for children impacted by trauma and abuse.
CFJ plans to send more than 40 local children this summer free of charge to a week-long summer overnight camp based at YMCA Camp Hi-Rock in the Massachusetts’ Berkshires. There, campers enjoy in traditional summer camp activities, while engaging in an evidence-based therapeutic curriculum focused on helping them develop the emotional resiliency to recover from their trauma and abuse.
All children who attend Camp HOPE do so free of charge through the support of generous donors.
“Since I opened Pure Poetry, I’ve really been committed to doing things that support the community in positive and meaningful ways,” said Antonio. “I really care about the mission of The Center for Family Justice and the idea of supporting this incredibly meaningful camp experience for local children who have experienced trauma.”
Shoppers who attend the fundraising event, which will feature snacks and libations, are encouraged to bring new items such as sunscreen, bug spray, flip flops, swim goggles and beach towels, which can be donated to a camp trunk in the store
In addition to the July 12 fundraiser, Antonio will offer a ten percent purchase discount to any shopper who comes to Pure Poetry between July 1 and 12 with a new item to donate to a camper.
