This state mandated certification training is the first step for anyone interested in working directly with victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and child abuse in Connecticut. Individuals can also take this training for professional development and a certificate of completion will be awarded after successful completion. This six-day training course is held at The Center’s main office, 753 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport 06604.
This intensive 40 hour course is led by The Center’s professional staff as well as experts from our community. Topics covered include the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual violence, trauma informed crisis counseling and basics of advocacy, legal/justice system as well as cultural diversity and cultural competency. Sessions will also focus on confidentiality, client-defined advocacy, safety planning, counseling of domestic violence and sexual assault victims, dynamics of child sexual abuse, working with underserved populations, prevention strategies, universal precautions, agency and community resources as well as volunteer opportunities. Participants will take part in engaging discussions, role plays and group exercises.
