This state mandated 40 hour certification training is the first step for anyone interested in working directly with victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and child abuse in Connecticut. Individuals can also take this training for professional development and a certificate of completion will be awarded after successful completion. Space is limited and registration is required.
This intensive six day course is led by The Center’s professional staff as well as experts from our community. Topics covered include the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual violence, child abuse, trauma informed approaches, criminal justice response including state and federal legislation as well as prevention and social change strategies. Sessions will also focus on confidentiality, client-defined advocacy, safety planning, crisis intervention and counseling skills, cultural diversity, intersectionality of oppression and working with diverse communities. Participants will take part in engaging discussions, role plays and group exercises.
