Individuals interested in providing direct client services at The Center for Family Justice as well as individuals interested in a professional development training on domestic and sexual violence can participate in a six session training course. This course fulfills the training requirements for domestic and sexual violence certification for the State of Connecticut.
This intensive 40 hour course is led by The Center’s professional staff as well as experts from our community. Topics covered include the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual violence, trauma informed crisis counseling and basics of advocacy, legal/justice system as well as cultural diversity and cultural competency. Sessions will also focus on confidentiality, client-defined advocacy, safety planning, counseling of domestic violence and sexual assault victims, dynamics of child sexual abuse, working with underserved populations, prevention strategies, universal precautions, agency and community resources as well as volunteer opportunities. Participants will take part in engaging discussions, role plays and group exercises.
